Is your junk drawer out of control? Does opening it give you mad anxiety? “is the drawer going to catch on all of your junk what’s going to catch this time?”. If you’re like me, and staring at perfectly organized spaces is therapeutic, then this is the perfect organization project for you. So often, undertaking a massive organization project can be overwhelming. What better place to start than one drawer? Before you know it, you’ll have all of your kitchen drawers done and you’ll be ready to move onto a bigger project, such as your pantry. (or be crazy like me and take on wallpapering your pantry). 

I’ve officially organized all of our kitchen drawers and I’ve broken it down into two categories: utensil drawer organization and junk drawer organization. 

In our home, we’ve got three different drawers that I dedicate to “junk. The first being a junk drawer in the form of pens, highlighters, paperclips – all the different office supplies you normally shove into one drawer. The second being more of a true “junk drawer” – you know, the one you throw the dog meds in, playing cards, legit all the junk that has no home in your house. Finally, the third being more useful and something utilized every day now that we’ve got a little one under our roof – one that houses foil, saran wrap, plastic bags – the good stuff. 

The first question I get is “how do you know which drawer organizer to use?” GREAT QUESTION – I don’t right off the bat. I first take out everything in my drawer and try to group them into categories that would make sense within the drawer. From here, take your measurements. Retailers such as The Container Store, Target, Amazon (seriously so many choice) have an abundance of sizes for you to choose from. For my true junk & office junk drawers, I had a lot of loose utensils. For this reason, I knew that I wanted organizers with some height. What good would organizers be if everything was filling over the sides? For this reason, I chose Deep Drawer Bins by iDesign for these two drawers. A lot of the deep drawer organizers are 4″ wide. These two drawers of ours are 24″ wide – so I knew I could configure these organizers to fit perfectly in our drawers. 

I truly believe that no house has the same drawer dimensions. Like even in my own home it seems each drawer is at least, a little off. I’ll detail out the dimensions of my drawers at the end of this post along with the exact product & counts I used for each in the off chance, we are drawer twins. 

My third junk drawer is a bit different. This drawer houses a lot more items that need to be accessible: ziplocs, face masks, food wrap. For this reason, I didn’t want the deep drawer bins, as I wanted a bit more flexibility in quickly grabbing the bigger objects. This drawer was also a much different size and the dimensions of these Everything Drawer Organizers fit the space much better. 

I truly believe that keeping these drawers organized helps keep the clutter out of our house – everything has it’s place, and the more “junk” I get, it forces me to either find a home for it, or toss it!
